About Commonwealth Fusion Systems:
Commonwealth Fusion Systems is on a mission to deliver the urgent transition to fusion energy.
Combining decades of research, top talent, and new technologies, we’re designing and building commercially viable fusion power plants. And we're working with policymakers and suppliers to build the energy industry of the future.
We’re in the best position to make it happen. Since 2018, we’ve raised nearly $3 billion in capital, making us the largest and leading private fusion company in the world.
Now we’re looking for more thinkers, doers, builders, and makers to join us. People who’ll bring new perspectives, solve tough problems, and thrive as part of a team.
If that’s you and this role fits, we want to hear from you.
Join the power movement as a Quality Control Manager
We are looking for a Quality Control Manager to champion operational excellence within our manufacturing ecosystem. By leading a multidisciplinary team of quality experts, you will oversee the seamless integration of inspection protocols and assembly validation, ensuring every component meets the exacting requirements necessary to power the future.

What you'll do:

  • Direct an elite team of metrology engineers and QC inspectors, optimizing daily resource allocation and providing real-time status reporting on critical-path inspections
  • Mentor and upskill technicians and inspectors, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous professional development
  • Oversee the Quality Inspection Lab, ensuring the precision of metrology equipment and the rigorous calibration of all mission-critical tools
  • Interpret complex blueprints and engineering requirements to ensure 100% adherence to technical specifications
  • Review and certify material test reports (MTRs) and inspection data from global suppliers to ensure the integrity of the CFS supply chain
  • Engineer robust inspection procedures for incoming materials and in-process manufacturing to validate compliance with CFS’s exacting assembly standards
  • Lead the selection and implementation of advanced portable metrology and CMM technologies to keep pace with evolving hardware designs
  • Bridge the gap between Design, Quality, and Manufacturing Engineering to ensure that "design for manufacturability" translates into "flawless execution" on the shop floor
  • Champion a culture of organizational discipline by implementing 5S methodologies (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) across the QC Lab and shop floor to optimize inspection flow, enhance technician safety, and eliminate waste in the measurement process

What we're looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, Materials Science, or a related technical field. (Equivalent experience in a high-rigor industry like Aerospace or Nuclear may be considered)
  • 7+ years of experience in a Quality Control or Manufacturing Engineering role, with at least 3 years in a direct supervisory or management capacity
  • Experience in "First-of-a-Kind" (FOAK) manufacturing, transitioning prototypes into scalable production environments
  • Proficient in interpretation and usage of ASME Y14.5 (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance)
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 quality management systems
  • Be able to set up, maintain, and use various inspection hand tools (calipers, micrometers, bore gages, rings & plug gages, profilometer, height gages, etc.)
  • The ability to translate complex technical non-conformances into actionable feedback for Design and Manufacturing engineers
  • A "startup" mentality—comfortable with ambiguity and capable of making high-stakes decisions in a rapidly evolving engineering landscape

Bonus points for:

  • Demonstrate proficiency in advanced metrology, including fixed and portable CMM’s (Faro/Romer arms) and laser tracking systems

Must-have requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally
  • Perform activities such as standing, stooping, and sitting for extended periods of time
  • Dedication to safety to mitigate hazards that may include heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead, high voltage, and cryogenics
  • Willingness to occasionally travel or work required nights/weekends/on-call
